Description

Under the direction of the medical center's Engineering Supervisor of Construction, the Construction Mechanic II is responsible for implementing in-house construction projects. The role requires expertise in three major construction trades and familiarity with all phases of construction, from demolition to installation of finishes.

Core Competencies
  • Collaborate with the Construction Supervisor on new projects to ensure standards are met.
  • Assist with equipment purchases and integration into the medical center system.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning trades, ensuring proper installation following guidelines.
  • Use tools, materials, codes, and safety procedures to install wall and ceiling framing, drywall, bracing, and door frames.
  • Perform concrete work, including formwork, pouring, and finishing slabs and other structures.
  • Install and finish ceiling tiles, wall and floor tiles, and maintain inventory levels.
  • Disassemble and remove demolition areas per plans, coordinate with medical center services, and store reusable items.
  • Lay out work from plans, identify structures, and report deviations.
  • Attend meetings, fill in as Maintenance Mechanic I when needed, and participate in emergency responses.
  • Maintain professional growth and participate in committees as requested.
Experience & Additional Information

Requires knowledge of building and safety codes, two years in construction and hospital environment, proficiency in three trades, and ability to interpret technical drawings. Some experience with IT and telephone systems is preferred.

Compensation Range

$27.68 - $42.53 per hour
