Job summary

Olsson seeks a Laboratory Manager for Construction Materials Testing in Tempe, AZ to coordinate lab activities, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with safety and accreditation standards. You will oversee testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials, while communicating with project teams and clients.

The role requires strong leadership, calibration maintenance, and process improvements to meet project schedules and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a construction-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years working in a construction materials or geotechnical laboratory.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure laboratory safety procedures are followed and staff are trained in equipment use and testing procedures.
  • Coordinate daily laboratory operations to meet project schedules, client requirements, and quality standards.
  • Supervise, train, and develop laboratory staff while maintaining company and safety standards.
  • Oversee testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials.
  • Communicate with clients, project teams, and field personnel regarding testing needs and results.
  • Assist with project scopes, estimates, and proposals for laboratory services.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibrations and preventative maintenance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to laboratory processes, efficiency, and testing accuracy.
  • Ensure laboratory accreditation requirements are met through proper documentation, testing, and quality control practices.
  • Review and approve laboratory test results and reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Implement CCRL and AASTO proficiency sampling.

Job Description

The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Manager plays a pivotal role in coordinating all laboratory activities to ensure work is completed on time and in accordance with project requirements and safety standards. The manager oversees laboratory operations, staff, and equipment, develops technical procedures, and maintains accreditation standards (USACE, AMRL, CCRL). The position involves implementing safety regulations, performing maintenance and testing, and ensuring adherence to industry standards, essential for the successful completion of construction projects.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure laboratory safety procedures are followed and staff are properly trained in equipment use and testing procedures.
  • Coordinate daily laboratory operations to meet project schedules, client requirements, and quality standards.
