Overview

Construction Materials Laboratory Technician — Requisition Number: 2026-1360-08

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in our New Albany, Indiana lab.

As a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, your role is crucial in ensuring the quality and reliability of our projects while performing routine laboratory testing of construction materials under the observation of experienced technicians and professionals. You will report test results accurately and comprehensively, often reviewing the test results of junior staff. You will also be responsible for equipment maintenance and cleanliness while assisting with calibrations. Proficiency with electronic reporting software and knowledge of testing requirements are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Testing and Reporting: Perform and report findings of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt testing in the laboratory under minimal observation of more experienced technicians and/or professionals. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our projects and client satisfaction.
  • Equipment: Maintain testing equipment in good working order, perform maintenance and calibration, and ensure equipment is ready for accurate testing.
  • Coordination of Others: May assign testing to other staff on small to medium projects and perform a preliminary review of their results.
What You Bring
  • High School diploma/GED; related vocational training is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction materials laboratory
  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level II required
  • Active industry certifications a plus: American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; International Code Council (ICC) Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • Effective math skills with a strong understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) in English
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

You must be willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of company-provided personal protective equipment, such as:

  • Work may be performed in an office or outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Walking on concrete or tile floors and standing for extended periods
  • Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs of field/laboratory samples and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
