Job summary

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) is seeking a Construction Materials Laboratory Manager to oversee a busy materials testing laboratory, ensuring safe, accurate, and compliant testing across concrete, soils, aggregates, and related materials.

The role requires strong leadership, project coordination, and client-service skills, with emphasis on quality control, audits, and staff development in a fast-paced environment at our Utah facility.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in construction materials testing, lab operations, or QA.
• 2+ years in supervisory or lab management preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO standards and testing procedures.
• Experience with lab quality systems, calibration, and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; proficient with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily lab operations, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Supervise and mentor laboratory technicians and technical staff.
• Oversee testing of construction materials (concrete, soils, aggregates, asphalt) per standards.
• Ensure testing follows ASTM/AASHTO/ACI requirements and project specs.
• Develop and maintain lab procedures, work instructions, and QC processes.
• Review test data, calculations, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain accreditation and prepare for audits; coordinate equipment calibration.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients on testing plans.
