Job Description
We are seeking dedicated Construction Material Technicians to perform testing and inspection services for building construction and infrastructure projects. This role involves performing on-site testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, soil, aggregates, asphalt, steel, and masonry, to ensure they meet project specifications. The position requires diligent documentation of test results and field activities, as well as direct communication with owners' representatives, project managers, contractors, and other on-site personnel. Candidates must be willing to travel, work variable schedules, including occasional weekends and overnight, and be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including materials such as concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.
- Ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and proposals for various construction aspects, including roadways, drainage, and more.
- Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with state specifications, plans, and proposals, including bridge projects.
- Verify plan quantities and calculations with as-bid plans, prepare and maintain project records and reports, and perform duties as assigned by the Project Engineer.
- Notify the Contractor or Project Engineer of status updates or non-conforming work.
- Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner and communicate effectively with the project engineer.
- Travel is required, mostly local but with occasional overnight or out-of-state trips.
Essential Skills
- ODOT pre-qualified construction inspector: ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I / ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I, OR Ohio Aggregate Level I
- Prior ODOT Inspection experience
- Prior construction inspection experience
- Relevant degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or Construction Management
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Prior construction or manual labor experience, such as landscaping
- Basic understanding of construction drawings and blueprints
- Strong attention to detail and ability to write accurate reports
- Effective communication skills with on-site personnel
- Willingness to work a variable schedule, including some weekends and overnight work
- Willingness to work outdoors on job sites year-round
- Willingness to travel and stay in hotels as required
Work Environment
This role involves working almost entirely in the field on various building construction and ODOT job sites. Some travel will be required, potentially out of state, with a schedule that can vary week to week based on contractor needs. The position requires working outdoors year-round, including some weekends and overnight work, particularly during concrete pours.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
