Job summary

Klover Contracting is seeking a Construction/Manufacturing Cost Accountant to oversee job costing, budgeting, and project profitability for our growing construction and prefabrication operations.

The role requires collaboration with project managers, operations, purchasing, and leadership to improve budget accuracy and financial controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required or preferred.
  • 3–7 years of accounting or job cost experience.
  • Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate job costing for construction and prefabrication projects.
  • Track labor, material, subcontractor, equipment, freight, and overhead costs.
  • Review purchase orders and vendor commitments against project budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain Work In Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Support monthly project financial reviews and forecast margins.

Job description

General Summary of Position:

The Construction/Manufacturing Cost Accountant isresponsible for overseeing job costing, project budget tracking, and accountingsupport functions for a growing construction and prefabrication company. Thisrole is responsible for maintaining accurate financial data related toprojects, monitoring job profitability, supporting operational decision-making,and helping leadership maintain strong financial controls.

The ideal candidate has experience in constructionaccounting and job costing, understands project financial management, and canwork closely with project managers, operations, purchasing, and leadershipteams to improve budget accuracy and profitability

Essential Duties (Core Competencies):
Job Cost & Project Budget Oversight:
  • Maintain accurate job costing for all construction andprefabrication projects
Track and analyze:
  • Labor costs
  • Material costs
  • Subcontractor costs
  • Equipment expenses
  • Freight and shipping costs
  • Overhead allocations
  • Monitor projects budgets versus actual costs
  • Assist in developing and maintain project budgets
  • Work closely with project managers and operations teams toidentify cost overruns and budget concerns
  • Review purchase orders and vendor commitments againstproject budgets
  • Assist with monthly project financial reviews
  • Support forecasting of projects margins and cash flow needs
WIP Reporting & Financial Analysis:
  • Prepare and maintain accurate Work In Progress (WIP)schedules
  • Track percentage-of-completion reporting and project revenuerecognition
Assist leadership in evaluating:
  • Cost-to-complete estimates
  • Earned revenue
  • Underbillings and overbillings
  • Estimated final project margins
  • Generate weekly and monthly project financial reports foramagement review
  • Provide analysis on project performance trends and costdrivers
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards to improveoperational visibility
  • Assist with forecasting company backlog, cash flow, andproject profitability
Budgeting & Operational Support
  • Participate in project startup meetings to establishfinancial tracking requirements
  • Assist estimating and project management teams with budgetsetup and cost planning
  • Review change orders and assist with tracking approved andpending changes
  • Coordinate with purchasing and operations to verify pricingand material cost accuracy
  • Assist in evaluating vendor pricing, material usage, andpurchasing trends
  • Support inventory and material tracking procedures withinfabrication and warehouse operations
  • Help establish operational controls to improve projectefficiency and accountability
Accounting & Financial Support:
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile job cost reports to general ledger activity
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processesrelated to project accounting
  • Assist with payroll allocation and labor costing
  • Maintain accurate cost coding and project financial records
  • Support sales tax and multi-state construction reportingrequirements and filings
  • Assist external CPA firms and auditors with financialdocumentation and tax filings
  • Assist with licensing for projects
  • Help maintain accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Assist in monthly forecasting and projections
  • Complete prequalification’s for jobs as needed
Operational & Process Improvement:
  • Manage and provide the monthly status on the bad-debtwrite-off process and provide recommendations for reserve accruals.
  • Manage and provide monthly status reports on the release ofbonds, liens, and all other related processes pertaining to cash and contractreceivables.
  • Manage the job status from active, to inactive, to closed,and issue status reports monthly.
  • Help improve job cost tracking systems and reportingaccuracy
  • Assist leadership with financial analysis and operationalreporting
  • Develop and maintain project cost tracking tools anddashboards
  • Improve documentation and purchasing controls

  • Assist with implementation and improvement of ERP/accountingsystems

  • Participate in management meetings and project reviewdiscussions as needed
Purchasing & Inventory Management
  • Assist with materials, tools, equipment, and physicalinventories, and cycle count as needed.
  • Learn, understand, and support inventory managementprocedures and accounting.
Other Duties As Needed:
  • Assist with records retention maintenance.
  • Provide payables and capital data for audits (insurance,state, internal).
  • Follow up on vendor inquiries from vendors and/or employees.
  • Establish new state/local reporting requirements, asnecessary (includes online setup, maintaining a log of account numbers, filingrequirements, and deadlines).
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure employees cancomplete tasks successfully.
  • Backup payroll timecard processing, as needed.
  • Backup billing functions and accounts payable functions, asneeded.
  • Backup purchasing functions, as needed.
  • Backup project management assistant functions for payables,as needed.
  • Assist/provide expertise in setting up Excel files forvarious departments throughout the company.
  • Provide training to other employees pertaining toFoundation, Excel, and other useful reporting tools to improve businessknowledge.

Preferred Experience:
