Join a fast-growing fibre contractor expanding into the Chicago market with a major backbone and middle-mile network build. With around 20 projects already secured and work starting in September, the company is establishing its regional construction operations and building a long-term presence in Illinois.
This company is looking for a Construction Manager to lead delivery across the region, overseeing three underground crews, one aerial crew, a supervisor, and a QC inspector. The role combines field leadership with client-facing responsibilities, including managing municipalities, local utilities, and resident expectations, with the opportunity to shape the regional construction function and progress into a senior leadership position as the market grows.
Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day construction delivery across underground and aerial fiber crews, managing production, sequencing and schedule across multiple concurrent projects.
- Act as the primary point of contact for municipalities, local utility personnel and residents, handling permitting coordination, escalations and community relations.
- Manage a supervisor and QC inspector, conducting regular field walks to verify workmanship, safety and specification compliance across HDD, underground and aerial activity.
- Own production tracking, red-lining and as-built documentation, ensuring footages, crossings and quantities are captured accurately for billing.
- Coordinate subcontractors and internal stakeholders to keep the build on programme and within budget, resolving field issues before they impact cost or schedule.
- Report progress, risk and cost variance to senior leadership on a regular cadence.
Skills/Must Have:
- Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Project Manager on outside plant fiber builds, covering both underground and aerial construction.
- Demonstrable experience managing multiple crews and direct reports on live projects.
- Strong municipal and utility coordination experience, with the communication skills to represent a contractor credibly in high-expectation communities.
- Working proficiency with Bluebeam and digital production tracking or red-lining platforms (Penguin Data, Render, Vitruvi, OciusX or similar).
- Highly organised, with the discipline to keep documentation and reporting accurate under pressure.
Benefits:
- Multi-year pipeline of secured work with genuine job security
- Direct exposure to and influence with senior leadership
- Clear progression path as the regional operation scales
- Full benefits package including health cover, PTO and vehicle/mileage allowance
Salary:
- $60,000 – $90,000 depending on experience.
