Job summary

SIRIS LLC in Montgomery, Alabama, is seeking a Construction Project Manager with a Mechanical Engineering background to support a Hospital Recovery and Renovation project with the VA. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required.
  • 6 years’ experience in design and construction.
  • Experience reviewing design/construction plans vs. site conditions.
  • Experience resolving unforeseen site/design conditions and proposing cost-effective solutions.
  • Ability to perform inspections and inventory of structures to identify deficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections of site work and document discrepancies, monitor schedules and coordinate phasing.
  • Review contractor submittals for technical compliance and recommend changes or rejection.
  • Maintain complete project records including submittals, RFIs, pay apps, safety observations and photos.
  • Attend weekly project meetings to monitor status and resolve issues.
  • Review testing/inspection reports and provide recommendations to SRE/RE.
  • Keep records to assist VA in conflict resolution.
  • Review contractor utility plans and report findings to SRE/RE.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and monitor usage.
  • Assist in documenting contract changes and cost estimates.
  • Perform daily/weekly safety inspections and ensure contractor compliance.

We are seeking a motivated Construction Project Manager with a Mechanical Engineering background to join our team at SIRIS to support a Hospital Recovery and Renovation project with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Montgomery, AL.This role reports to the Program Director and collaborates with VA client staff to support construction activities, generate reports, and serve as a client-side representative.

Position Description:

The Mechanical Construction Manager will provide leadership, mentorship and project and/or construction management for construction of new ground up construction. The Mechanical Engineer provides decisive direction regarding business, technical, and personnel management involving multi-disciplinary and diverse functional activities. The Mechanical Engineer will be required to learn, teach, and implement industry, client, and internal company best practices related to project delivery, budget, schedule, quality, and operations in the healthcare environment. The Mechanical Engineer will lead a team of professionals and act as an advisor/liaison to the client (user groups, design team, contractors, and facility engineering representatives). The project may require off-hour work during construction to minimize the impact on medical center operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct and carry out portions of daily inspections of site work, building construction work; document discrepancies, code violations, improper materials or techniques in the application of materials, substandard or poor-quality workmanship; monitor schedules on various aspects of ongoing daily activities to identify and recommend mitigation of project slippage and coordinate project phasing.
  • Review Contractor's submittals for technical compliance with contract requirements, and RFls and make recommendations as to acceptance, required changes, or rejection.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized project records including but not limited to submittals, RFls, pay applications, inspection and testing records, correspondence, changes, warranties, certified payrolls, project photographs, samples, and safety observations. Inspect and verify that the contractor's as-builts are complete and accurate.
  • Conduct and/or attend weekly project meetings to monitor project status, schedule, discuss problems, and resolve issues accordingly.
  • Review the testing/inspections reports submitted by the Contractor and provide approval/dis-approval recommendations to the SRE/RE.
  • Keep thorough records of all construction related matters to assist VA in conflict resolution.
  • Review Contractor Proposed utility services and/or traffic interruptions plans and provide report to SRE/RE.
  • Maintain an inventory of materials, supplies and equipment and monitor the quantity of materials used in the contract administration and conduct of the project.
  • Assist in the documentation of the administration of construction contract changes (draft proposal request, prepare cost estimates, review cost proposal, assist VA in negotiations, prepare change order packages for the Contracting Officer (CO/SRE).
  • Perform daily/weekly Safety Inspections and Prepare Safety Inspection Reports as part of the daily log. Monitor contractor safety management and verify contractor compliance with their own project specific safety plan, Cal-OSHA, VA requirements.
  • Maintain list(s) of observed defects and omissions. Prepare inspection punch lists and coordinate resolutions of punch list items.

Required Qualifications:

  • · Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • · 6 years’ experience of design and construction experience.
  • · experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions.
  • · experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions.
  • · experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.
  • · Knowledge of all aspects of commercial mechanical construction including but not limited to underground mechanical installation, medical gas systems, domestic water systems, chilled water systems, and steam systems.
  • · Knowledge of low Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, testing and balancing, operations, sheet metal duct systems and control systems including direct digital controls.
  • · Knowledge of conveying systems including electric dumbwaiters and materials lifts, electric traction elevators, hydraulic elevators, pneumatic tube systems, and uniform dispensing equipment.
  • · It is preferred that the CM-ME have knowledge of mechanical design and installation for specialized medical and laboratory equipment including but not limited to MRI, PET, CT, audiometric booths, fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, and sterilization equipment.
  • · Ability to provide cost estimates and take-offs for the structural contract modifications.
  • · Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards.
  • · Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes.
  • · Working knowledge of environmental, civil, safety, architectural and structural fields.


The pay range for this role is:
105,000 - 125,000 USD per year(Montgomery, AL)
