Job summary

IES Communications is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee large projects, ensuring safety, quality, and financial performance. You will staff, manage materials, and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver on time and within budget.

The role may supervise one or more Project Managers on-site and requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The Construction Manager will budget, organize, implement, and schedule projects while ensuring compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum seven years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Five years in telecommunications or related construction field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Able to travel within branch/regional territory.
  • Strong reading and interpretation of blueprints and specs.
  • High school diploma or GED; bachelor degree preferred.

Job Summary

The Construction Manager oversees large projects, ensuring that all contracted work meets the company’s standards for safety, quality, management, and financial performance. They handle staffing, materials management, financial management, customer care, and delivery goals efficiently, and may supervise one or more Project Managers on‑site. The Construction Manager plans and monitors construction projects from start to finish, aiming for timely and cost‑effective completion. They are responsible for budgeting, organizing, implementing, and scheduling the projects, collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure smooth execution. Their keen eye for detail and strong organizational skills help maintain adherence to timelines and budgets. Project management expertise is crucial for coordinating resources, resolving issues, and delivering successful construction projects. The role also includes acting as a site liaison and managing multiple scopes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, manage, and supervise project staff according to company policies.
  • Address human resource issues and review subordinate PMs’ recommendations.
  • Rate subordinate PMs’ performance.
  • Manage workload distribution, monitor customer delivery and job progress.
  • Plan, manage, and maintain project profitability.
  • Ensure accuracy in job cost postings, invoices, collections, and financial reports.
  • Handle multiple scopes of work (structured cable, audio‑visual, security, life safety).
  • Participate in the bid process.
  • Manage quality and safety on projects.
  • Act as liaison with customer representatives.
  • Implement account improvements.
  • Oversee construction projects from start to finish.
  • Review projects to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
  • Monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate construction workers and subcontractors.
  • Select tools, materials, and equipment, track inventory.
  • Meet contractual performance conditions.
  • Daily review of work progress.
  • Prepare job status reports.
  • Prevent and resolve problems.
  • Negotiate terms, draft contracts, and obtain permits.
  • Analyze and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure quality construction standards and techniques.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Must be self‑motivated, positive, professional, and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Must promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • Must possess proven problem‑solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentations.
  • Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must be able to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to learn company and customer project management systems.
  • Must be able to successfully secure and maintain a company‑sponsored American Express Card.
  • At least a high school diploma or GED equivalency required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • RCDD certification preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Must meet company minimum driving standards.
  • Must manage multiple tasks or project phases simultaneously.
  • Must supervise subordinate PMs on the project.
  • Must have verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
  • Must be able to use the following trade tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone, 3M, BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4‑pair continuity tester and 5‑gang punch tool.
  • License required. Minimum years of experience: 6+. No minimum education beyond high school.
