Job Summary

Construction Managers at Dennis Group are project site supervisors responsible for overseeing daily construction activities, coordinating sub-contractors, managing site safety programs, project schedules, and budgets. Our projects focus on designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial / MEP projects), requiring extensive coordination with engineering teams, designers, and architects. The role demands strong communication skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to facilitate meetings effectively, utilizing multiple software programs.

The Construction Manager ensures smooth project progression through comprehensive field and office management tasks, including contract administration, project planning, scheduling, reporting, and advising on project management issues.

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Site Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Daily supervision of construction activities, subcontractor coordination, and site safety programs
  • Supervision of assigned field engineers or junior construction managers when directed
Responsibilities
  • Autonomous oversight of medium-sized projects
  • Collaboration with project management on scope, budget, and schedule updates
  • Project accounting, budgeting, and cost management
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Establishing and maintaining site safety procedures with the safety team
  • Overseeing installation of process, mechanical, and utility equipment
  • Permitting, code, and regulatory approvals
  • Change order management and general construction administration
  • Coordination of field engineering and inspections
  • Managing third-party testing, inspections, and relationships
  • Researching construction management best practices
  • Client-facing responsibilities, working collaboratively with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and A/E teams
  • Preparing and administering third-party agreements
  • Conducting jobsite walks and audits to monitor project progress and subcontractor adherence to plans
  • Procurement of project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.)
  • Managing project punch-list inspections
  • Promoting effective communication among project participants, clients, and partners
  • Supporting and coordinating facility startup
  • Preparing and maintaining project reports and logs
  • Working with subcontractors to ensure schedule compliance and exploring alternative resources
  • Reviewing and maintaining submittals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Collaborating with Project Controllers and Project Managers on invoices and billing
  • Performing engineering calculations
  • Preparing permit applications
  • Assisting in work plan and package preparation
  • Interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews
  • Coordinating project close-out activities
  • Assuming safety responsibilities across various roles
  • Supporting talent development within the organization
  • Providing coaching and mentoring as directed
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or a related field
  • 4-7 years of design-build experience on industrial projects
  • 4-7 years overseeing subcontractors and project schedules
  • 4-7 years of client interaction, demonstrating strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Experience working on industrial building projects with a comprehensive understanding of construction phases, documents, schedules, and budgets
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% across the USA and possibly Canada
  • Work schedule includes 10 days onsite followed by 4 days off
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as standing and walking on uneven surfaces at project sites
  • Ability to traverse all areas of the jobsite in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
  • Exposure to typical construction site hazards
  • On-call availability for delays, emergencies, and weather issues
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Travel Details

Our projects are located throughout the US and Canada. The position involves a 10 days on / 4 days off schedule, with projects lasting from 6 to 12+ months. Per diems for meals and lodging are provided, along with travel provisions. Up to 100% overnight travel may be required based on project needs.
