Job Title: Manager I, II, III, Construction

Reports To: Construction Project Manager

Location: Wisconsin or Michigan

Employment Status: Salary (Exempt)

Salary will be based on skills and experience and equity with other employees in similar roles.

Job Summary

The Construction Manager manages and oversees the performance and activities of construction crews, ensuring work is performed in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. They inspect ongoing work, ensure adherence to state and local codes, arrange for necessary equipment, and keep construction project costs at or under budget.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of assigned construction crews
  • Continuously evaluates and informs each direct report's performance and improves their skills for the advancement of the team
  • Enforces company policies and procedures
  • Administers appropriate corrective disciplinary actions and prepares supporting documentation to address employee performance and/or behavioral issues
  • Trains Foremen
  • Works with the Project Manager coordinating, scheduling, and material ordering
  • Works with customer on the site coordination and planning
  • Has authority to order material for assigned job
  • Works with Admin on crew timesheets and documents for assigned jobs and job setups
  • Invoice approvals
  • Ensures projects are completed within budget and on schedule
  • Tracks milestones and deliverables throughout the lifespan of a project
  • Approve and/or fill out daily production reports, markup maps, keep track of work hours, and complete As-Builts and Closeout packages
  • Performs interviews and manages hiring for field crews
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Proven ability to manage, train, and oversee construction crews, ensuring work is performed safely, accurately, and timely
  • Proficient in aerial/underground construction
  • Capable of reading and interpreting building plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with effective listening
  • Professional demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills, works well with diverse personalities and team environments
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of computer equipment and software (Excel, Word, scheduling software, HCSS Heavy Bid, etc.)
  • Ability to do statistical analysis, percentages, profit calculations, ratios, budget forecasts
  • Ability to calculate figures, discounts, percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions, do estimates, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret RFPs, trade journals, contracts, financial reports, job documents and prints, operating manuals, safety rules & regulations, training manuals, etc.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, customers, and public groups
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Excellent attention to detail with emphasis on quality
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
  • Extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, awkward positions, standing, and twisting
  • Stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time
  • Wear safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and applicable safety gear
Minimum Required Licenses/Certificates/Registrations
  • CPR/First Aid
  • OSHA 30
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

  • Lead medium crews and/or projects of medium complexity
  • Proven mastery of all Manager, Construction duties & responsibilities

Minimum 3 Years Supervisory Experience
  • Project leadership is owned independently
  • Lead larger crews and/or the most complex projects
  • Proven mastery of all Manager, Construction duties & responsibilities and prior experience at Manager, Construction I/II
  • Possesses & maintains additional OSHA 30 certification
  • Advanced skills at job costing
