Job summary

Zachry Group is seeking a General Superintendent Field for NiSource Schahfer in Wheatfield, IN. The role involves supervising multi-discipline construction activities on a refinery project, coordinating labor, materials and equipment, and ensuring safety, schedule, and cost control.

The successful candidate will perform duties safely and efficiently while supporting project management, leading safety meetings, and maintaining accurate project data.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project management in controlling project costs and maintaining overall profitability.
  • Examine project schedules and coordinate labor, materials, and equipment for various tasks.
  • Monitor all work activities and instruct superintendents and foremen on labor methods, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Ensure production work meets project specifications, monitor progress and quality.
  • Assist in estimating and scheduling manpower requirements for specific tasks.
  • Conduct regular meetings with craft supervision to coordinate future job activities and assure productivity.
  • Inspect project work and advise superintendents and foremen on potential hazards; maintain a safe work environment.
  • Coordinate with engineers, client/owner, inspectors, etc. to resolve design or specification problems.
  • Maintain project progress and cost data to analyze work efficiency.
  • Lead project safety meetings; advise craft supervision and employees on safety conditions and compliance with company and regulatory procedures.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine scope of work, locations, quantities, and material sizes.
  • Identify required tools, assess safety risks, and determine precautions.
  • Manage workloads, supplies, equipment, and reporting.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and terrain characteristics.
  • Demonstrate industrial history experience.
  • Understand how to read and interpret technical manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Be reliable, accountable, and consistent in administrative processes.

Job Description

Zachry is currently accepting applications for a General Superintendent Field at NiSource Schahfer, Wheatfield, IN. Qualifications

Salary/Pay Rate: In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Illinois position, Construction Manager I, is between $140,899 and $201,693 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job‑related factors as permitted by law.

Benefits: This position is eligible for participation in Zachry’s Total Employee Rewards Program, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and other ancillary benefits. The position also qualifies for the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands include arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi‑limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. Employees will be required to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift regularly. Tasks may involve speaking, hearing, using arms and hands to signal, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools, giving full attention to communication, and occasionally working at heights, climbing ladders, and operating in confined spaces. Lifting and carrying of objects may occur. Will need vision for short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, masks, safety vests, gloves, and steel‑toe boots, is mandatory. Work will be performed in all weather conditions, including warm/hot to cool/cold temperatures and occasional rain. Work may take place at different elevations and in close, confined spaces for extended periods.
