The Prince George's County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill a Construction Manager (Engineer 4G) grade G31 in the Office of Engineering and Project Management.

About The Position

This is advanced and supervisory level professional and technical position responsible for complex engineering duties requiring the use of a wide range of engineering principles and practices and providing technical support within the Office of Engineering and Project Management (OEPM). Duties require the incumbent to be responsible for engineering and construction management work related to the implementation of the County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in the Office of Engineering and Project Management (OEPM). The position requires technical, budgetary and administrative expertise in the areas of project development, management and implementation of complex construction projects. A Professional Engineer (PE) License is required for this position.

About The Agency

The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.

Examples of Work

• Performs supervisory engineering and construction management for projects within the County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
• Reviews construction plans and development proposals to ensure compliance with project scope, standards, and specifications.
• Develops concept designs, identifies project risks (e.g., permitting, utilities, community impacts), and prepares cost estimates.
• Oversees preparation of technical and contract specifications in accordance with County, state, and federal requirements.
• Manages project delivery from design through construction closeout, including scheduling, budgeting, and consultant oversight.
• Coordinates construction inspection and administration to ensure quality, compliance, and adherence to approved plans.
• Monitors contractor performance, project budgets, and schedules; implements corrective actions as needed.
• Coordinates with agencies, utilities, and stakeholders to secure approvals and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Reviews technical submittals, evaluates complex designs, and supports resolution of contract disputes.
• Supervises staff, conducts performance evaluations, and sets goals and expectations.
• Prepares reports and represents the Department at meetings, hearings, and public engagements.
• Participates in emergency operations (e.g., snow and ice control) and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering field (e.g., civil, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction).
• Four (4) years of progressive professional experience in the appropriate engineering field, to include at least two (2) years of lead/supervisory experience.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Construction manager in Training (CMiT or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) through the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
