Qualifications

  • Comfortable managing volunteers and groups on site.
  • Ability to identify and drive objectives.
  • Willing to select Saturdays on site with volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written); bilingual a plus.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of construction for the new home.
  • Ensure work meets quality, safety, and code standards (local, HFHI, OSHA).
  • Complete HFHI Competent Person certification within 7 days of employment.
  • Maintain construction timelines and ensure on-schedule completion.
  • Monitor budgets; review invoices and track expenses for cost control.
  • Order materials and schedule deliveries; coordinate labor and subcontracted work.
  • Lead or delegate daily safety/toolbox meetings with volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a master schedule.
  • Coordinate architectural and engineering design with Build Team.
  • Oversee Build Captains and volunteers; coordinate subcontractors.
  • Schedule and attend required construction site inspections.
  • Receive and inventory deliveries of materials.
  • Maintain a safe work environment per OSHA and HFH Rockland.
  • Train, supervise, and support volunteers and skilled labor on site.
  • Foster an inclusive, safe, and fun work environment.

Job description

The Construction Manager works closely with staff, volunteers, subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors, serving as the central point of communication throughout the build process. This position requires strong leadership, organization, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts while fostering a positive, productive environment for volunteers and partner families.The Construction Manager oversees the day‑to‑day operations of Habitat Rockland’s residential construction projects and manages all on‑site activities from planning through completion. This role is responsible for preparing and breaking down sites for build days, coordinating daily tasks, and ensuring that each project is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Habitat’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Construction Oversight and Management :
  • Manage all phases of construction for the new home.
  • Ensure work meets quality, safety, and code standards (local, HFHI, and OSHA).
  • Must complete Habitat for Humanity International’s Competent Person certification within the first 7 days of employment.
  • Maintain construction timelines and ensure projects are completed on schedule.

  • Oversee work of Build Captains and volunteers.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors.
  • Schedule and attend required construction site inspections.
  • Receives and inventories deliveries of construction material.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by adherence to OSHA and Habitat for Humanity of Rockland.
  • Train, supervise, and support volunteers and skilled labor on the job site.
  • Foster an inclusive, safe, and fun work environment where everyone feels valued.
  • Ensure all volunteers receive safety orientation and job‑specific instruction.
Communication & Coordination:
  • Collaborate with the Build Team and Family Selection Team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with inspectors, municipal departments, and vendors.
  • Provide regular project updates to leadership and participate in staff meetings.
General Duties:
  • Maintain clean, organized job sites with secure storage of tools and materials.
  • Keep accurate records of progress, materials used, hours worked, and incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with all insurance, permit, and inspection requirements.Contribute to developing annual build schedules and long‑term construction plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years experience in residential construction management or similar role.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, scopes of work, and technical specs.
  • Experience working with various governmental agencies.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfort using hand and power tools; must follow all safety procedures.
