Job description

A leading energy infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the safe and successful field execution of capital construction projects involving oil and gas facilities, natural gas pipelines, compressor and pump stations, processing facilities, and related infrastructure. The Construction Manager will support constructability during project development and oversee construction through mechanical completion, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. This individual will ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project requirements, approved drawings and specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

This role provides field leadership to third-party representatives and contractors across multiple active projects. The Construction Manager will coordinate daily construction activities, manage contractor performance, remove execution barriers, support quality assurance and commissioning, and maintain accountability for safety, cost, schedule, quality, and overall execution. The position serves as a key link among project management, engineering, operations, contractors, procurement, environmental and regulatory personnel, and other stakeholders.

Key Success Criteria
  • At least 15 years of facility construction experience, including five to seven years leading construction teams on large capital projects.
  • Extensive experience executing oil and gas projects involving natural gas pipelines, compressor or pump stations, processing facilities, and brownfield environments.
  • Proven ability to manage EPC contractors and oversee projects through mechanical completion, commissioning, QA/QC, turnover, and closeout.
Primary Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
  • Champion a strong safety culture and maintain a visible safety leadership presence in the field.
  • Ensure contractors comply with company safety expectations, project requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine field safety audits and address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Participate in incident investigations and help implement corrective actions.
  • Promote proactive hazard identification and accountability across project teams.
Construction Management
  • Lead daily construction and inspection activities across multiple projects and field teams.
  • Coordinate contractor, subcontractor, and vendor work.
  • Identify and remove barriers that could affect safe and timely execution.
  • Monitor productivity through schedule reviews, field observations, and productivity audits.
  • Verify that contractor staffing and equipment levels are adequate to meet project requirements.
  • Manage field changes and coordinate their resolution with the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Confirm that construction conforms to approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and project standards.
Schedule and Progress Management
  • Monitor project schedules and assess field progress against planned milestones.
  • Identify critical-path risks, delays, and emerging execution concerns.
  • Track contractor performance and recovery actions.
  • Communicate schedule status, risks, and recommended corrective measures to project leadership.
  • Maintain a schedule-driven approach across multiple concurrent projects.
Quality, Mechanical Completion, and Turnover
  • Audit compliance with approved inspection and test plans.
  • Monitor welding activities and weld quality.
  • Verify completion of construction and commissioning check sheets.
  • Review turnover documentation for compliance with regulatory requirements and company specifications.
  • Coordinate mechanical completion activities and system handoffs.
  • Develop, manage, and close punch lists.
  • Support commissioning, startup, turnover, and project closeout activities.
Contractor Management
  • Hold contractors accountable for safety, scope, schedule, cost, quality, and productivity.
  • Review contractor staffing and execution plans.
  • Lead or participate in construction progress meetings.
  • Resolve field conflicts and elevate material risks when appropriate.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and drive timely corrective action.
Stakeholder Coordination
  • Collaborate with engineering to resolve technical and constructability issues.
  • Coordinate construction and turnover activities with operations.
  • Interface with environmental and regulatory personnel.
  • Support procurement, logistics, and material-management activities.
  • Provide clear, timely updates to project management and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 15 years of facility construction experience.
  • Five to seven or more years of verifiable experience leading construction teams on large capital projects.
  • Demonstrated construction experience involving:
  • Compressor and pump stations
  • Processing facilities
  • Experience managing EPC contractors.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Mechanical completion
  • Commissioning and startup support
  • Project turnover
  • Quality assurance and quality control
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with owner-side capital project execution.
  • Experience managing industrial capital projects valued from $25 million to more than $250 million.
  • Knowledge of API and ASME standards and welding inspection practices.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, as well as applicable API and OSHA requirements.
  • Hands-on knowledge of commissioning activities.
  • Experience leading multiple contractors and subcontractors simultaneously.

This individual brings extensive pipeline, compressor station, pump station, and facility construction experience, along with a strong record of managing projects through mechanical completion, commissioning, and turnover.
