ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be challenged to do:
GFT is hiring for a Construction Manager that manages small-to-large and moderately complex construction projects to include inspecting and overseeing construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties. Performs quality control inspection activities.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Conducts and documents project meetings with clients
- Manages construction field personnel, including team partners
- Prepares and monitors project schedules and budgets
- Prepares and issues reports and correspondence.
- Approves quantities for measurement and payment purposes
- Approves construction payment applications
- Resolves technical issues
- Performs constructability reviews and value engineering studies
- Participates in Risk Management assessments
- Prepares and monitors Quality Control and Assurance Plans
- Performs project start-up, project completion, and entire close-out process.
- Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications.
- Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approves installation.
- Interprets blueprints and specifications for Contractor and discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
- Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
- Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports.
- Has the capability to monitor several types of work activity simultaneously.
- Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance.
- Work independently but identifies issues to Client Manager and Project Manager as required to ensure the success of the project.
QualificationsWhat you'll bring to our firm:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Requires a minimum of 15 years of construction inspection experience and 3 years of Construction Management experience with some technical training or equivalent experience.
- TxDOT certification in Category 11.3.1 - Construction Superintendent.
- Must have knowledge of Word Processing software and Internet software.

What we prefer you bring:
- Supervisory experience overseeing the work of less experienced inspectors.
- Rail construction experience. Rail construction assignments are subject to FRA drug testing regulations.
- Both highway and rail construction assignments may involve extended travel, frequent overnight stays, and occasional weekends.
- Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Internet software, preferably SiteManager.
- Certificates and Licenses – Preferred but not required TxDOT certifications: Category 11.4.1 - Environmental Inspections, 11.9.1 - Railroad Coordination Management During Construction, 12.1.4 - Asphalt Concrete Placement, 12.1.5 - Portland Cement Concrete Placement, and 12.1.7 - Embankment/Subgrade/Backfill/ Base Production. Other preferred certifications include: ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state DOT certification are recommended, but not required.
- Each inspector must possess at minimum a valid Class “C” driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Due to public work and requirements of potential clients, must have clean criminal background history.
Compensation:
- The hourly range for this position is $56.00 - $70.00. Hourly range is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
