The 400 OFFICE OF JUVENILE AFFAIRS in Oklahoma is seeking an experienced Construction/Maintenance Technician I/II to perform facility repairs, upkeep of buildings and grounds, and basic systems maintenance. This role requires hands-on trade skills and the ability to work independently to keep the site safe and functional.

Minimum qualifications call for two years of building trades experience for Tech I or four years for Tech II, plus a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and background checks.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in one or more building trades for Construction/Maintenance Tech I.
• Four years of experience in one or more building trades for Construction/Maintenance Tech II.
• Valid Oklahoma driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
• Ability to pass OSBI and FBI background checks.

Responsibilities

• Performs carpentry work in construction or renovation of buildings or additions.
• Erects and maintains scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences and other structures.
• Alters and repairs doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows and fixtures.
• Installs, glazes, glass in windows/doors and maintains roofs.
• Maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks and faucets.
• Repairs equipment and handles basic plumbing/heating/air conditioning tasks.
• Maintains and repairs electrical systems and light fixtures; operates and services equipment.
• Constructs and repairs foundations, walls, walks and chimneys; uses masonry materials.
• Operates machinery and equipment used in construction and grounds maintenance.
• Supports mission and policies; maintains confidentiality and works well in a team.

A Career with Purpose The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is searching for an experienced Construction/Maintenance Technician. This role will provide maintenance services to keep the facility building, grounds, and equipment in good repair. If you have two years or more experience in the building trades, or a combination of education and experience, we encourage you to apply. Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair or upkeep of buildings, grounds or other state property, requiring no license. This may include assisting in the construction or renovation of buildings, general maintenance and upkeep of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems, minor repairs to machinery or other equipment, and general maintenance of grounds or lawns.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs carpentry work in the construction or renovation of buildings or additions to existing structures;
• erects and maintains scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences and other structures;
• alters and repairs doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and other fixtures;
• fits and glazes glass in windows and doors;
• maintains and repairs roofs.
• Installs, replaces, alters, maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, traps, faucets;
• makes minor repairs to laundry equipment, sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment and other equipment using water, steam air, or other feed line and return or waste disposal lines.
• Maintains and repairs light fixtures, receptacles and switches; replaces light bulbs; maintains generators and motors; oils and cleans motors; troubleshoots and makes electrical repairs not requiring a license; maintains and makes minor repairs to various types of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, such as components, pumps, fans, humidifiers, electric motors, and heat exchangers.
• Installs and maintains locks and other security devices; repairs or replaces tumblers, springs and other parts; cuts new or duplicate keys; uses files, hand tools and special equipment to change combinations or shorten tumblers.
• Constructs, maintains and repairs concrete and other foundations; builds retaining walls, walks, fireplaces, chimneys, stairways and similar projects; mixes mortar and lays common brick, face brick, cinder brick, concrete block, stone, terra cotta or other materials.
• Operates, maintains and repairs various types of equipment used in construction and maintenance of building and grounds, such as trucks, tractors, bulldozers, power shovels, cranes or semi-trailer tractors, fork lifts, mowers and edgers.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment while building strong relationships with all levels of staff and effectively collaborating, communicating, respecting, and assisting peers.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $40,000

Minimum Qualifications

• Construction/ Maintenance Tech I Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of two years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Construction/ Maintenance Tech II Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of four years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

• Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
• Must be able to pass OSBI and FBI background check.
• A trial period of 12 months will be required.
• Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
