Job summary

The Armstrong Group is hiring an entry-level Construction Lineman to join our team. You will assist in constructing aerial and buried coax, copper, and fiber optic cables according to our practices and procedures.

The role requires climbing, outdoor work in various conditions, and willingness to travel overnight. We offer a strong benefits package, paid time off, and opportunities to advance, including CDL training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • DOT medical card can be obtained after offer.
  • Overnight travel required.
  • Able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Climb poles and ladders safely.
  • Work aloft with gaffs, ladders, and lifts.
  • Operate bucket trucks, forklifts, backhoes/trenchers, and other equipment.
  • Read and follow network design prints.
  • Maintain daily logs and inventory records.
  • Follow Armstrong safety policies and company standards.

Construction Lineman 1 Position Summary

Shift: 4x10 hr shifts, M-Th (overnight travel required)

This is an entry level position where the successful candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will work with the crew on the construction of both aerial and buried coax, copper, and fiber optic cables, according to company construction practices and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Competent pole and ladder climbing skills
  • Works aloft utilizing climbing gaffs, ladders, and mechanical lifts
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks, fork lifts, backhoes/trenchers, and other machines
  • Works outdoors in the elements
  • Reads network design prints
  • Accurately maintains daily log sheet and inventory paperworkKnowledge of NESC construction guidelines and Armstrong construction practices
  • Follows all Armstrong safety policies
  • Maintains vehicles and machines to Armstrong standards
  • Other assigned tasks
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess a positive attitude, a strong work-ethic, and a desire to learn
  • DOT medical card (can get one after receiving an offer)
  • Overnight travel required
  • Physical capabilities including climbing, lifting, and carrying a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Must maintain physical fitness to meet weight limit requirements for ladders and lifts and be able to meet the demands of a labor-intensive job
  • Must be able to take direction verbally and written and be able to work rapidly under time pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and ethical decisions
  • Available to work after business hours as required, i.e. storm damage
  • Regular, punctual, and consistent attendance
  • Can be obtained after hire: Commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements, fork lift certification, flagging certification, and pole climbing certification
