Job description

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Build, repair, and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) plant under moderate supervision.
  2. Construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructure as part of a crew.
  3. Support efforts to improve customer experience.
  4. Perform complex cable installations in underground and overhead environments following company standards and industry regulations.
  5. Prepare underground systems for repairs, including trenching, potholing, backfilling, and conduit or pole repairs or replacements.
  6. Investigate and repair cut fiber optic cables or impairments.
  7. Dig trenches, fill ditches, bury cables, and install cables through trenches or conduits.
  8. Install equipment for HFC & FTTH, ground plant, or install grounding rods or wires.
  9. Collaborate with other technicians and contractors in performing duties.
  10. Manage traffic control and flagging as necessary.
  11. Handle loading and unloading of equipment and tools.
  12. Read system prints and accurately place cables accordingly.
  13. Calculate signal losses using appropriate meters.
  14. Follow all relevant safety, local, state, federal regulations, and company policies.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  2. Proficiency with hand tools such as drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers.
  3. Physical ability to walk over various terrains and weather conditions carrying tools and equipment.
  4. Safe use of weight-bearing equipment (gaffs, harnesses, ladders).
  5. Proficiency with computers and software applications.
  6. Ability to measure distances accurately and operate ladders and climb poles.
  7. Ability to differentiate wire types and sizes, and make cable connections in tight spaces.
  8. Operate test equipment like signal level meters and ohm meters.
  9. Work at heights (poles, roofs), standing 50-70% of the time.
  10. Use handheld communication devices.
  11. Adhere to safety and regulatory standards.
  12. Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and CDL Class A.
  13. High school diploma or equivalent; 2+ years construction experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with utility, electrical, or telecom sectors.
  2. Certifications like OSHA 10, electrical training, NESC Communications 1910.268.
  3. 1+ years of relevant experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor confined spaces and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, insects, and other elements.
  • Work near power lines, at heights, and during travel in different weather conditions.
