Position Summary:

The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at highway and heavy construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools, and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Execute job deliverables according to customer specifications and contract requirements.
• Manage cost control, margin expectations, productivity, change orders, and equipment reporting.
• Ensure all project work complies with installation standards and is performed safely and correctly.
• Promote and monitor the safety of team members.
• Prepare sites to optimize construction work procedures.
• Clean debris, trash, and hazardous materials from construction sites.
• Dig trenches as instructed.
• Assist in installing pipes and drains.
• Erect temporary structures.
• Place traffic signs to warn traffic of construction in progress.
• Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately.
• Load and unload equipment from trucks.
• Fill potholes to facilitate the construction process.
• Ensure all work complies with company protocols.
• Train apprentices and new hires in construction labor work.
• Use hand tools to cut and shape materials as per instructions.
• Follow safety and incident reporting procedures and report issues to the foreman.

Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma.
• Experience: Knowledge of gas installation techniques and standards; limited experience required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, tools, and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
• Traverse irregular and steep terrain.
• Perform physical tasks throughout the workday, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
• Navigate construction sites, climb ladders and scaffolding.
• Work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, and tunnels.
• Wear personal protective gear most of the day.
• Work in various weather conditions.
• Manual dexterity, good balance, and hand-eye coordination.
