Job summary

Talley Construction, a CRH Company, is hiring a Crew Member to support paving and highway construction across North Georgia, Chattanooga TN area and Northeast Alabama. Expect long shifts, manual labor, and use of hand and power tools in varying weather conditions.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to project requirements. Qualified candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be prepared for flexible hours, overtime, and outdoor work on diverse job sites.

Qualifications

  • Ability to use power and/or hand tools to complete tasks up to job standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company safety policies and report issues to the Foreman or Safety Manager.
  • Attend according to Attendance Policy to maintain crew efficiency.
  • Assist paving crew with shoveling, raking, flagging, and wheelbarrow duties.
  • Use tools such as shovel, rake, hammer, saw, and other hand/power tools as needed.
  • Dig, spread and level construction materials.
  • Lift and carry materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Assist in placement and removal of signs, barricades, cones, and traffic control devices.
  • Follow supervisor directions for daily tasks on each project.

Position Overview

Crew member essential to the construction/paving crew. Member will assist in the paving and construction of highways/private roadways/parking lots/driveways using handheld tools.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Properly follow all Company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Attendance required according to Company Attendance Policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level.
  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as shoveling, raking, flagging and running wheelbarrow.
  • May be required to use power and/or hand tools such as shovel, rake, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer/drill, tamps (both manual and power driven), concrete saw, sledge hammer and other tools associated with laborer.
  • Dig, spread and level construction materials.
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies.
  • May assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
  • Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectation for each specific project of job site.
  • Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shift is 8-12 hours.
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • High school education of GED preferred but not required.
Work Requirements
  • Must be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes.
  • Overtime work required. Out of town/county/or state work may be required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Must adhere to PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company.
  • Requires riding to and from job sites. If operating company vehicle, employee must meet Driver Qualification Standard.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to use power and/or hand tools needed to complete jobs within specifications.
  • Ability to follow Traffic Control Crew instructions and practice safety standards per Company Safety Policy requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to withstand physical demands associated with heavy highway construction.
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures.
  • The following motions will be required: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting - these will occupy most of work day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. for repetitious lifting while using proper lifting techniques.
Work Environment
  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
