Job summary

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, seeks a full-time Construction Laborer for our Traverse City office. You will perform heavy labor, assist trades, and help maintain clean, safe job sites across Northern Michigan.

Primary duties include material handling, equipment operation (where licensed), scaffolding setup, and basic concrete work. This role requires physical stamina and adherence to safety protocols on diverse projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites and assist trades as needed.
  • Operate forklift or skid loader if licensed and required.
  • Clean, prepare and maintain sites; load and distribute materials and tools.
  • Work safely and follow project plans and specifications.
  • Set up scaffolding, fencing, and basic temporary structures as directed.
  • Pour concrete elements and assist with miscellaneous labor tasks.

CONSTRUCTION LABORER| TRAVERSE CITY

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a full time Laborer position to service our Northern Michigan market, based out of our Traverse City office.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects, excavations, and demolition sites along with equipment operation.
  • Operate forklift or skid loader (must hold current applicable license).
  • Clean and prepare construction sites, dig trenches, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris.
  • Work in a safe manner.
  • Operate hand and power tools of various types.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Ensure that materials and tools are put in their designated areas and that jobsites are maintained clean.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, and other temporary structures.
  • Install and maintain perimeter construction fencing and screening.
  • Fuel equipment on-site.
  • Install safety mesh protection.
  • Assist and self-perform trades including but not limited to cement, drywall, carpentry and electrical with all general laborer tasks and needs.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Physical requirements: Able to lift 55 lbs.
  • Pour concrete walls, footings, columns, slabs, etc.
  • Set up concrete pours, system pumps, etc.
Qualifications
  • Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to read and follow routine specifications.
  • Minimum 18 yrs. of age
  • High School graduate
  • Work rotating shifts
  • Capable of moving into positions with significant decision-making responsibility.
