Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is offering an open to undergraduate Construction Intern (Finance) program. Interns will gain hands-on experience by assisting project teams through all phases from bidding to final completion, with assignments on office and job sites.

Expect relocation to remote sites, as needed, and a 10–12 week timeframe at 40 hours per week. Reporting to project managers and engineers, interns will learn engineering and technical aspects of projects, performing tasks

Qualifications

• Open to undergraduate students seeking hands-on practical experience in construction.
• Pursuing a BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction Management.

Responsibilities

• Assisting project teams in managing construction projects from bidding to final completion.
• Learning engineering and technical aspects of the project in field and office.
• Assisting with quantity take-off, layout, surveys, submittal reviews, RFIs, and coordination with owners, architects, and subs.

Intern Job Description

Reporting Relationship: Depending on the work assignment, interns will report to a project manager, superintendent, project engineer or field engineer. You may be assigned to the office, jobsite or mix of both.

Tasks Assigned: You will be learning the engineering and technical aspects of the project both in the field and in the office. Your experience will include some or all the following:

• Quantity take-off
• Layout
• Preconstruction/as-built surveys
• Shop drawing review/approval & maintenance of log
• Submittal review/approval & maintenance of log
• Request for information (RFI) review/submission & maintenance of log
• Responding to subcontractor RFIs
• Interfacing with subcontractors & suppliers
• Attending weekly progress meetings
• Assisting with coordinating the work between the owner, architect & subcontractors
• Assisting during the bid process
• Assist with reviewing construction documents & specifications
• Assisting with reviewing all document revisions & clarifications
• Assisting with maintaining field record

• Assisting with estimates/budgets/value engineering/constructability surveys Assist with writing contracts & purchase orders
• Assisting with preparing billings to owner & submitting change orders
• Assisting with approval of invoices
• Assisting with ordering & expediting materials
• Assisting with scheduling & updates
• Assisting with quality control & safety
• Assisting with settling contracts
• Assisting with permit process
• Assisting with performing costing, scheduling, estimating & project management
• Punchlist & project closeout
• Cooperating & working with field project management
• And any other duties that may be assigned

Education:

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology or Construction Management, Construction Technology.
