Job summary

EXP is seeking a Construction Intern in Chicago to support inspection of roadways and infrastructure projects, document daily activities, and assist project teams with plan reviews and data entry. You’ll work with senior inspectors and engineers, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, with CAD and MS Office experience and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field.
  • Proficient with CAD tools and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; detail-oriented and able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in inspection of transportation projects to ensure compliance with plans and standards.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify work follows specifications.
  • Document daily activities and prepare detailed progress reports.
  • Coordinate with project managers to address issues observed during inspections.
  • Review project plans to understand requirements.
  • Perform data entry and maintain project records using relevant software.
  • Support senior inspectors and engineers to ensure project success.
  • Adhere to schedules and produce high-quality work.

Your work environment at EXP

EXP’s Transportation and Infrastructure Practice provides comprehensive planning, design and construction engineering services for all types of roadway, bridge, water resource, rail, transit and aviation projects. With a unique multidisciplinary team approach, we have a history of successfully delivering complex infrastructure projects. We are currently looking to grow and enhance our construction engineering and inspection (CE+I) practice and are seeking an energetic Intern to work within our Chicago Office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Assist in the inspection of transportation projects such as roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify that work is being performed according to plans and specifications.
  • Document daily construction activities and prepare detailed reports on project progress, including any issues or deviations from the plans.
  • Coordinate with project managers to address any issues or discrepancies observed during inspections.
  • Assist in the review of project plans and specifications to gain a better understanding of the project requirements.
  • Perform data entry and maintain project records using relevant software and tools.
  • Support senior inspectors and engineers with various tasks as needed to ensure the successful completion of the project.
  • Adhere to schedules and ensure the production of high-quality work.
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Studying Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related field is required
  • Experience with computer aided drafting and Microsoft Office products
  • Punctuality and maturity – ability to work with minimal direction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a team environment
The hourly range for this role is $21 to $30. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
