Job summary

Hawkeye Community College is seeking a Construction Instructor to develop and teach courses with an emphasis on construction and building trades. The role involves engaging with student vocational potential through aptitude assessments related to construction and building trades.

The instructor will maintain supervision of the construction site and classroom, support continued program development, and work across departments to serve a diverse student body and community.

  • Instructs construction and building trades courses at various times, days, and sites through multiple modalities.
  • Maintains an organized worksite and ensures a safe instructional environment in the classroom and on the job site.
  • Works in collaboration with Business & Community Education, Academic Affairs, and other college programs and committees on development and implementation of existing and future programs.
  • Serves as a coach and advisor to students while maintaining a professional relationship with students before, during, and after instruction.
  • Maintains and documents student progression.
  • Maintains good stewardship of tools, equipment, job sites, and classrooms.
  • Participates in campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Our Workforce Training & Community Development team has an opening for a full-time Construction Instructor that will develop and teach courses with an emphasis on construction and building trades. This is achieved by engagement with student vocational and educational potential through aptitude assessments related to the construction and building trades. Additionally, this position will maintain general oversight of the construction site and classroom.
