The candidate should be motivated and capable of working independently and/or with the GPI/SCDOT Project Team. Candidates must be available to work the Contractor's hours of operation, including day or night shifts and weekends, as necessary for project completion. Responsibilities:

• Perform daily field inspections and observations of contractor work for heavy highway and/or bridge construction projects, including earthwork, subgrade, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, MOT, safety devices, and utilities.
• Measure, compute, record, and maintain contract quantities for contractor payment.
• Read and interpret project plans, specifications, and standards.
• Perform and/or observe material sampling and testing in accordance with project standards and specifications.
• Ensure contractors' work/materials meet standards and specifications.
• Document daily project progress, including work performed, conformance/nonconformance, manpower, equipment, contract quantities, and extra work.
• Enter and record project progress, materials, payments, and documentation in AASHTOWare Project or other electronic software.
• Identify and communicate project issues to project managers and contractors.
• Identify, assess, and communicate unsafe conditions to the contractor.

Qualifications:

• SCDOT or other DOT construction inspection experience.
• Inspection certifications with SCDOT.
• Asphalt Roadway Technician.
• Earthwork and Base Course.
• Foundations (Drilled Shaft and Pile).
• ACI Field Grade I Concrete Testing Technician.
• NICET certifications may be considered if SCDOT certifications are actively pursued.
