This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The starting salary varies by level: the entry-level salary is posted above, with an Intermediate starting salary of $70,562.40 and a Senior starting salary of $76,207.20.

Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already earning above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Job Location: Willow Springs

This opening is for a CAREER-LADDER position, offering opportunities for advancement without participating in a competitive interview process. Why you’ll love this position: The construction inspector inspects routine construction activities for compliance with plans, specifications, and contract terms, under moderate supervision.

  • Coordinates and performs construction inspections to verify contractor compliance.
  • Acts as inspector in charge of routine construction items like asphalt, concrete paving, grading, small bridges, and culverts, including utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals, and lighting.
  • Prepares final plans, change orders, payment estimates, and engineering cost calculations.
  • Maintains documentation, records, and reports on construction activities and conditions.
  • Provides field checks for surveying operations, serving as party chief or instrument operator on complex structures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.
  • Successful completion of work simulation and medical-physical exams.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Moderate physical activity required.
  • Exposure to hazards, safety risks, and adverse environmental conditions.
  • May involve operation of vehicles for snow plowing and ice control.
