Your impact

Our Water and Infrastructure team is experiencing exciting growth in Nevada, and we have a need for a Construction Inspector – Water/Wastewater/Pipeline to join our teams in Reno and Las Vegas. You’ll work alongside our resident engineers, construction managers, and project managers to provide field inspection and construction oversight for water, wastewater, pipeline, and related utility infrastructure projects throughout Nevada.

In this role, you’ll monitor construction activities to verify that work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, permits, and client requirements. You’ll serve as an important field representative for the project team, documenting construction progress, identifying potential issues, and facilitating communication between contractors, engineers, clients, utility owners, and other project stakeholders.

Utilizing your knowledge of construction practices and inspection, you’ll observe and inspect construction methods, materials, equipment, and workmanship associated with water and wastewater pipelines, underground utilities, transmission mains, treatment facilities, pump stations, vaults, structures, and related civil infrastructure. You’ll also assist with construction documentation, quantity verification, testing observations, field coordination, and preparation of inspection reports.

Typical Duties
  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standards.
  • Inspect installation of water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and other utility pipelines, including excavation, trenching, shoring, bedding, pipe installation, fittings, valves, structures, backfill, compaction, and restoration.
  • Inspect construction associated with pump stations, treatment facilities, manholes, vaults, tanks, and related civil, mechanical, and utility infrastructure, as applicable to the project.
  • Observe and document pipeline testing activities, including pressure testing, leakage testing, flushing, disinfection, compaction testing, and other project-specific quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, approved changes, and other contract documents to verify work is being performed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor materials and equipment delivered to the project site and verify that installed materials are consistent with approved project documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily inspection reports, including construction activities, labor and equipment, quantities installed, testing activities, site conditions, photographs, and significant project developments.
  • Measure and document quantities of completed work and assist with review and verification of contractor payment applications and installed quantities.
  • Document field changes and assist with maintaining construction records and record drawing information.
  • Identify potential nonconforming work, conflicts, or constructability concerns and promptly communicate observations to the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, utility owners, testing agencies, client representatives, municipalities, and other project stakeholders as required.
  • Observe contractor compliance with project-specific environmental, safety, access, and site requirements while maintaining appropriate roles and responsibilities related to contractor means and methods.
  • Participate in progress meetings, field coordination meetings, inspections, startup activities, substantial completion inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be able and willing to work day or night shifts and flexible schedules, including weekends, when required to support project construction activities.
Here's what you'll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, construction administration, utility construction, pipeline construction, or a related field.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, details, and other contract documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with contractors, engineers, clients, and project team members.
