Position Overview

Under the general supervision of a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager, the Construction Inspector will perform detailed inspections of public works projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, safety regulations, codes, permits, and agency requirements. This role involves working on water and wastewater treatment plants, sewer and water pipelines, lift stations, wells, and related infrastructure within the public right-of-way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of wastewater treatment plant construction and sewer pipeline installations, including trench excavation and backfilling.
  • Verify the construction of public works projects, such as water and wastewater treatment facilities, sewers, lift stations, wells, and pipelines, for adherence to project specifications.
  • Ensure restoration of surfaces and existing improvements complies with approved plans and regulations.
  • Review and process approved submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, weekly progress meetings, and other project-related discussions.
  • Maintain a detailed daily log of construction activities and document progress with photographs.
  • Interact professionally with contractors, engineers, and the public to address project-related inquiries.
  • Review and approve monthly pay requests and updates to as-built drawings.
  • Track extra work, sign daily time and material worksheets, and generate punch lists.
  • Review and approve project closeout documentation to ensure completion of all requirements.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of public works construction processes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience with construction inspection or related field preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $200,000. The firm offers a highly competitive salary and fringe benefits, and most importantly, an opportunity for engagement and support from an engineering team that has led major regional water resource projects throughout California.
