Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Construction Technician with WV Transportation Engineering Technician (TRET) level 3 or 4 certification to serve as inspectors supporting highway and bridge projects throughout West Virginia. This role primarily supports WVDOH District 4 in Harrison County and offers a sign-on bonus.

The Specific Duties of this position include:
  1. Verifying that contractor work complies with plans and contractual specifications.
  2. Performing calculations for contractor payments.
  3. Reading construction plans and documents.
  4. Maintaining good communication skills.
  5. Writing daily technical reports.
General Characteristics
  • Developing advanced field operation skills; possessing computer skills; good visual and hearing abilities; following procedures; good organizational skills; working in various weather conditions; prioritizing safety; flexible with work hours; willing to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasionally on weekends; capable of physically demanding work, including lifting 25-50 lbs. routinely and walking for long periods.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Reviewing plans and specifications for field observations.
  • Conducting tests and investigations on-site or in laboratories.
  • Collecting and preparing soil, asphalt, and concrete samples; recording data; preparing reports.
  • Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results.
  • Performing laboratory and field tests per standards.
  • Using specialized equipment for analyses, reports, and drawings.
  • Communicating testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.
Project and Task Management
  • May lead projects and tasks.
Management Responsibility
  • Ability to work independently or lead crews when necessary.
Communication Skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; good team interaction; ability to motivate and maintain team harmony.
