Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking an on-call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections ensuring projects comply with contract requirements and permits. You will inspect diverse construction sites, document variances, collect materials samples, and assist with field tests while coordinating with project staff on safety and traffic control.

Applicants should have a college degree or 5+ years in transportation or civil projects, plus 4+ years of inspection experience and a valid California driver

Qualifications

• College degree or 5+ years' experience in transportation or civil projects.
• 4+ years inspecting engineering construction work, reading and interpreting plans and specs.
• Valid California Class C driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from approved plans and specs.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in field tests or refers samples for lab analysis.
• Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; reviews project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, asphalt concrete placement, mixes control.
• Inspects concrete delivery, placement, curing, and reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of submittals, RFIs, CCOs.
• Verifies acceptability of materials via Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports.
• Maintains inspection records including daily diary and photo log.

BKF is hiring an ON CALL Construction Inspector to execute onsite construction inspections to ensure the project is being constructed in compliance with the contract requirements and applicable permits.

Responsibilities

General

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI's, CCO's
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
• 4 + years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver's record are required

• The typical base salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location, hourly wage
