Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee (TA)

Position Summary:

We are hiring Transportation Construction Inspector Trainees (TA) to support multiple clients and locations throughout Pennsylvania. This is an entry-level position with great growth potential for individuals who enjoy being outside on road and bridge construction projects. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, pay attention to details, and can develop great documentation skills.

CES is seeking Trainee professionals to join our team for the following areas Southern Pennsylvania.

PADOT District 6-0 Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Philadelphia Counties

PADOT District 8-0 Perry, Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, Franklin, Adams, York, Lancaster Counties

NOTE: Interested applicants from Northern Maryland are encouraged to apply.

The Transportation Construction Inspector Trainee (TA) will be responsible for ensuring contractors’ compliance through reviewing, interpreting, and enforcing plans and contract documents for efficient and timely inspection of the contractor’s work and additional duties including:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, inspect, and oversee project inspection activities of roadway, structure, and bridge projects.
  • Monitor contractors and schedules to ensure quality control and contract compliance of moderate to complex construction projects.
  • Apply knowledge and experience toward the inspection of roadways and bridges using PADOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Apply engineering principles in the inspection and documentation of construction activities.
  • Recommend changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide cost savings.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records and documentation.
  • Complete testing of materials using PADOT testing procedures
  • Apply Best Management Practices to environmental inspection activities.
  • Apply Best Management Practices to safety activities.
  • Communicate with various stakeholders, including Localities and PADOT
  • Assist with the development of change orders.

Education, Certifications, and Experience

The TA minimum qualifications for this role include the following:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to complete electronic documentation for daily activities which include reports, charts, sketches, and photographs
  • Experience operating computer equipment, software programs and Apps.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able and willing to work day and night shifts and extended working hours as needed.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have any of the following:

  • Previous construction experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience writing detailed reports or providing documentation
