Job summary

USI Consultants, Inc. in Indiana seeks an experienced field inspector to support federally and locally funded transportation projects.

You will observe construction, verify compliance with contract documents, prepare reports, and assist with project records and QA testing. Required: High School Diploma, INDOT certification or Civil Engineering degree, 2+ years of inspection experience, ability to read construction documents, strong math and MS Office skills, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must have 2+ years of continuous inspection experience on transportation projects.
• Knowledge of INDOT standards and procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong mathematics skills and clear oral and written communication.
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable record.

Responsibilities

• Observe construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents and approved submittals.
• Record field observations and determine acceptability of work.
• Verify contractor payments, change orders and progress applications.
• Prepare reports detailing work performed and quality of completed work.
• Coordinate with owner and assist Project Manager on construction-related issues.
• Maintain project documentation and QA testing inspections as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Familiar with company, client, government and industry standards.
• Follows verbal and written instructions
• Observes and monitors construction for compliance with contract documents and approved shop drawings/material submittals.
• Records field observations and determines acceptability of construction work performed.
• Monitors contractor’s quality control and verifies construction conforms to contractor’s quality control plan.
• Makes field measurements, computations and records of acceptable work.
• Prepares reports outlining the work performed and the quality of completed and acceptable for payment. Calculates the quantity of acceptable completed work for payment.
• Reviews and verifies contractor’s payment applications, proposals, and change order requests.
• Coordinates construction activities with owner and assists Project Manager with client on construction related issues.
• Prepares and maintains project records in accordance with the company’s, client’s, and government’s standards.
• Coordinates or conducts quality assurance testing, inspections and surveys.
• Other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

• High School Diploma required
• INDOT certified technician, or Construction/Civil Engineering degree required.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 2 years continuous experience in the inspection of federally and locally funded transportation projects.
• Knowledge of INDOT standard and procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
• Understands and follows company standards, demonstrates knowledge of construction techniques, and assists mid to senior level team members with complex projects.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong mathematics skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable record
