Job summary

Pennoni is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector for NJDCA-certified roles to perform daily special inspections and materials testing across New Jersey.

The position requires 1–3 years of related experience and NJDCA certifications in one or more areas, with field work across South/Northern NJ and diverse project scopes.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of related field experience in special inspections.
• NJDCA Certification in Structural Welding, Structural Steel and Bolting, Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, or Soils.
• Proven ability to read drawings and write reports; able to coordinate with engineers and clients.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction work and perform materials testing as QA on-site.
• Monitor compliance with drawings and specifications for concrete, masonry, steel, fireproofing, soils.
• Perform field tests on plastic concrete, grout, mortar, block, and nondestructive welding tests.
• Read drawings, prepare reports, and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and clients.

Job description

Pennoni is seeking candidates with experience as a Special Inspector who are interested in performing daily special inspections and materials testing on exciting projects throughout the State of New Jersey. Candidates for this position are to have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in performing special inspections on civil/structural construction projects. Depending on your previous experience, you will inspect various projects in the areas of earthwork, reinforced concrete, structural masonry, fire proofing, structural steel bolting, structural steel welding, and perform related materials testing. The position also requires various certifications and will require proof of certifications or proof of the ability to obtain the necessary certifications at the time of interview.

Job Responsibilities

Pennoni Associates is currently seeking a Construction Inspector - NJDCA Certified to work at various locations in South/Northern NJ with experience consistent, but not limited to:

• Working in the field at construction sites as a quality assurance representative inspecting construction work and performing construction materials testing
• Monitoring one or more of the following for compliance with the drawings and specifications: reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel, spray applied fireproofing, soils and/or foundation construction
• Performing field testing of plastic concrete, grout, mortar and block, fireproofing, soils and/or nondestructive testing of welds
• Ability to read drawings and specifications, write reports, create sketches, communicate and coordinate with the engineers, contractors, and clients

Required Attributes

• 1 to 3 years of related experience
• NJDCA Certification in one or more of the following:
  • Structural Welding
  • Structural Steel and Bolting
  • Reinforced Concrete
  • Structural Masonry
  • Spray-Applied Fireproofing
  • Soils
• Computer Skills: Windows-based software, Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, and Outlook)
• High School Diploma
• Willing to work in the field performing some physical work
• Honest, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work at heights for steel/welding inspection
• Able to work construction hours, which may include overtime
• Reliable transportation

TARGET SALARY RANGE: $40+ (per hour)
