Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is hiring a Construction Inspector for municipal Michigan projects. The position focuses on documenting work status, ensuring design compliance, and coordinating information between contractors and engineers across multiple cities in Michigan.

The role demands a high school diploma with relevant technical education preferred; travel, weekends, and strong communication are essential. Prepare thorough reports and support project execution at field sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience is a plus.
• Municipal construction inspection experience preferred; DOT inspection experience a plus.
• Familiarity with survey principles and construction stakes/cut sheets preferred.
• Knowledge of water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and pavement construction; HMA and concrete pavement experience a plus.
• Familiarity with Appia, AASHTOWare, or other digital inspection platforms a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record; ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam or PlanGrid desirable.

Minimum Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an office setting and travel to project sites. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, maneuver outdoors, and use technical equipment for documentation. Visual acuity and spatial awareness are essential.
