Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking a construction inspector at entry, intermediate, or senior level to inspect routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, and contract terms. This role involves moderate supervision and career ladder advancement.

Responsibilities include attending preconstruction conferences, site visits, reviewing documents for federal/state compliance, and preparing final plans and contractor payment estimates; salary ranges shown below

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
• ABET accreditation assures confidence that a collegiate program has met standards essential to prepare graduates to enter critical STEM fields in the global workforce.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Responsibilities

• Attends preconstruction conferences, site visits, and semi-final inspections and communicates LPA project progress with Area Teams, including any potential traffic impacts.
• Provides guidance to LPAs in the construction phase of a project regarding federal-aid requirements; including conveying information relative to subcontracts, DBE, CUF, OJT, VE, project diaries, erosion control, ADA, and Buy America.
• Reviews and processes invoices for repayment consistent with requirements in the Engineering Policy Guide (EPG).
• Reviews contract documents for federal and state compliance, approves Change Orders, including determination of federal aid eligibility and reviews applicable final documents for project closeout, issues final acceptance report, and submits final reimbursement request.
• Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles and performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
