Salary Range:

Construction Inspector I: (B18) $45,521 - $71,055

Construction Inspector II: (B19) $48,244 - $76,028

Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspect construction methods and workmanship for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Act as a consultant for work progress and problem resolution.
  • May serve as the sole inspector or assist in overseeing large or complex projects.
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.
  • Perform materials tests and process inspections at fabrication sites.

The essential duties for the Construction Inspector I include:

  • Attend pre-construction meetings and communicate with contractors.
  • Calculate payments for completed work.
  • Ensure construction adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Assist in data collection, inspections, and plan review activities.
  • Resolve plan and specification interpretation issues.
  • Document work progress and issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

The duties for the Construction Inspector II include all of the above plus:

  • Serve as a lead or project leader.
  • Train and mentor less experienced inspectors.
  • Prepare and review correspondence.
  • Consult with engineers and contractors on project issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Construction Inspector I: No experience required.
  • Construction Inspector II: 1 year of relevant experience or related education/training.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to operate a state vehicle.

Competencies:

For Inspector I:

  • Knowledge of traffic control, laws, and OSHA regulations.
  • Skills in reading plans, calculations, and maintaining safety.

For Inspector II:

  • Knowledge of inspection methods, testing, and plan review.
  • Understanding of roadway design and engineering principles.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Subject to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, hazards.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs, carry objects, and perform physical tasks.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing required.

Schedule: Full-time, Regular, Non-management, Day shift.
