Position Overview

This position is accountable for assisting Resident Engineers and Resident Technicians in the inspection, layout, and documentation of highway construction projects.

Essential Functions

• Keeps accurate and legible records of inspections, field measurements, and documentation of contract items.
• Keeps the Resident Engineer or Resident Technician informed on status and/or problems on contractor's work.
• Provides accurate and efficient measurements and construction layout as a member of the staking crew.
• Inspects various items of construction for conformity with the contract.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum OR two years of engineering experience.

Conditions of Employment

• Valid driver's license.
• Extensive districtwide travel and some statewide, which may include overnight stays.
• Ability to work overtime.
• Shift work as required per contractor.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, wade in water, and deal with poisonous plants, animals, insects, rodents, and snakes; and to perform outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, windy, muddy), and active construction sites and roadways open to traffic.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.
