Job description

Position Overview

This position is located in the Cobb County Community Development office. The primary responsibility is to inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct Field Inspections: Inspect residential and commercial construction sites, reviewing building, electrical, framing, footing/slabs, HVAC, plumbing, insulation, gas, water, and other systems. Review approved plans and compare with actual construction. Take photographs and maintain logs.
  2. Record and Address Violations: Document failed inspections, issue notices of violations, and work with contractors and property owners to resolve issues. Report non-compliance to authorities and maintain documentation.
  3. Approval and Documentation: Approve construction activities and final products that meet code requirements. Keep detailed inspection records and related paperwork.
  4. Consultation and Customer Service: Engage with building owners, contractors, and the public regarding codes and procedures. Respond to inquiries, complaints, and provide explanations of policies and standards.
  5. Knowledge Maintenance: Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and standards. Attend workshops and maintain professional affiliations.
  6. Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in construction, site inspections, or related fields, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to acquire necessary certifications within probation period.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Tasks involve moderate physical activity, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to environmental hazards such as dirt, dust, noise, and adverse weather conditions.

Additional Information

Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive odors, depth, and visual cues; communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Exposure to various environmental conditions may be required.
