Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector to join our Civil Field team in Grand Rapids and surrounding MI locations. You will perform field observation and documentation for roadway and bridge projects with the Michigan DOT, as well as municipal utility projects.

This role requires travel and outdoor work, offering opportunities to gain experience on diverse projects and grow your career in field inspection. A two-way communicator with strong organizational skills is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 2-5+ years of inspection experience on DOT or municipal projects preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT documentation requirements; familiarity with AASHTOWare, Appia, or other digital inspection platforms is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam or PlanGrid is a plus.
• Experience with survey equipment including GPS or Arrow Systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed Daily Work Reports (DWRs) documenting work status, pay item postings, materials, and jobsite conditions.
• Complete calculations, sketches, and forms, including concrete placement reports, permits, removal item records, wage interviews, mobility reports, and drilled shaft inspection reports.
• Verify construction compliance with contract requirements and communicate non-compliance issues to senior staff.
• Assist with Requests for Information and serve as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers.
• Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, survey staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to ensure proper execution of project designs.
