Position summary: Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction, ensuring structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored visas, except for TN visa classification.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  1. Mentor and manage entry-level staff.
  2. Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
  3. Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
  4. Measure dimensions and verify levels, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and/or pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
  5. Gather and maintain record documents.
  6. Make field notes and computations.

Non-essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's drug screening process, with ongoing random and for-cause drug and alcohol testing.

Required Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
  • 5+ years of construction inspection experience.
  • Active driver’s license.
  • TDOT certifications or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in the field. Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Work may be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, or arid environments.
