Inspects under close supervision and with specific instructions various phases of construction projects, other than buildings, to assure compliance with plans, specifications, and agreements of the work; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancies: There are two vacancies with the Board of Water Supply. Under the close supervision with specific instruction, this position inspects the construction of simple to moderately complex waterworks projects to ensure that the materials, workmanship, and the completed projects are in adherence to the established plans, specifications, contractual documents, acceptable waterworks construction practices and techniques, and in compliance with Board of Water Supply standards.
Anticipated work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays thru Fridays, but may be required to work shifts, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to accommodate unusual problems or workload and construction schedules. Positions may involve occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, sewer treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment. Some physical dexterity required to perform on-site field inspections and investigations which include: climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks and manholes, crawling through pipes; carrying sampling, measuring, and testing equipment; walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces. If not provided City vehicle, employee required to provide personal vehicle for regular job transportation and be compensated at union contract rate. The use of protective equipment may be required due to possible exposure to toxic/noxious fumes and substances. Safety practices and procedures are used.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Six months experience as a Construction Inspector Trainee or two years journey level experience in any skilled construction trade.
