Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Construction Inspector to support professional engineers and technicians in field inspection. Responsibilities include inspecting work, documenting with diaries and reports, and maintaining project data in DOTD systems.

Training and ongoing education are part of the role. Work hours 7:45 am to 4:15 pm, with appointment options and premium pay details.

About this Job

• This position is responsible for assisting professional engineers and/or higher level technicians in the performance of construction inspection work.
• The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
• The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties

• Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with departmental policies, standards, specifications, and project plans.
• Complete and process construction documentation such as field diaries, reports, and estimates.
• Enter, review, and maintain construction project data in departmental systems (e.g., MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager).
• Apply DOTD engineering policies and procedures while working in the Project Engineer’s office and at construction sites.
• Serve as the primary construction inspector in assigned areas of specialization or certification.
• Determine material sampling requirements and verify materials, haul quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
• Complete required training and support efficient project operations, including assisting other staff as needed.

Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00/hour for every hour worked. The starting salary for each level is as follows:

• Construction Inspector 1- Starting salary is $1198.40/bi-weekly
• Construction Inspector 2 - Starting salary is $1372.00/bi-weekly
• Construction Inspector 3 - Starting salary is $1570.40/bi-weekly
• Construction Inspector 4 - Starting salary is $1797.60/bi-weekly

Salary will be dependent on the experience of the selected candidate.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:45 am - 4:15 pm, Monday-Friday
