Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Construction Inspector in Virginia to join our transportation team. Under general supervision, you will perform daily inspection duties on complex projects, ensuring contractor work aligns with plans, specs, and contract documents.

You will document activities and coordinate with the project engineer and team. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and quality on-site, with opportunities to learn through fieldwork on diverse projects and to contribute to project success from

• High School / technical degree or equivalent in related field.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reviews projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and codes.
• Monitors construction progress ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
• Generates daily inspector reports documenting construction activities.
• Inspects and documents contractor’s construction activities including traffic maintenance, excavation, drainage, pavement and structures.
• Examines construction materials to verify they meet specifications.
• Reviews plans, submittals, schedules, shop drawings and pay applications.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

Your Opportunity

Your role is to work with general supervision and direction on average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Project Engineer.

You will be responsible for daily inspection efforts on multiple complex, large, and/or diverse projects in order to ensure contractor’s operations comply with project plans, specifications, and contract documents.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Inspects and reviews projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations




• Monitors the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.




• Generates daily inspector reports documenting construction activities activities, utilizing eConstruction processes, records and notifies supervisor regarding of any non-conforming work




• Inspects and documents contractor’s construction activities including: maintenance of traffic, excavation, drainage systems, erosion/sediment/control, Hot Mix Asphalt and Concrete pavement, miscellaneous structures and calculates quantities and costs.




• Examines construction materials, checking to see if they meet specifications.




• Reviews plans, specifications, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications.




• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High School / Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.




• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$61,900.00 - $86,700.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
