Job summary

Project Solutions Inc. seeks a Construction Inspector to provide on-site inspection and surveillance for the Coast Guard TRACEN Yorktown project in Virginia. The role ensures work complies with contract documents and supports the Government throughout construction.

Responsibilities include daily inspections, documentation, weekly progress reports, and coordination with Government personnel and contractors. Requires a strong background in construction inspection and QA/QC with federal project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and five years of construction experience required, or PE/PMP/QA/QC with five years.
  • Ten or more years of construction experience accepted with alternative qualifications.
  • Experience on Federal Government construction projects within the last ten years is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-time on-site construction inspection and surveillance to monitor the contractor's work and verify compliance with contract requirements.
  • Review contract documents, plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, schedules, and modifications to maintain familiarity with project requirements.
  • Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and document progress, workforce, equipment, materials, and site conditions.
  • Maintain project records, including diaries, correspondence files, meeting documentation, photographs, and other inspection records.
  • Prepare and submit weekly progress reports summarizing construction activities, progress, issues, and observations for the Government.
  • Review contractor payment requests, schedules, testing results, and QC documentation, offering recommendations to the Government.
  • Attend project meetings, coordinate with Government personnel and contractors, and support inspections including substantial completion and punch-list activities.
  • Identify and report deficiencies, non-compliant work, safety concerns, and other issues to the Contracting Officer and Government representatives.

Position/Project Overview

Project Solutions Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector to provide on-site construction inspection and surveillance services for the Engineering & Weapons Training Building Phase 2 project at U.S. Coast Guard TRACEN Yorktown, Virginia, ensuring the work is performed in accordance with the contract documents and supporting the Government throughout construction.

This role is contingent upon award of project.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide full-time on-site construction inspection and surveillance to monitor the contractor's work and verify compliance with contract requirements
  • Review contract documents, plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, schedules, and modifications to maintain familiarity with project requirements
  • Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and document the contractor's progress, workforce, equipment, materials, and site conditions
  • Maintain project records, including construction diaries, correspondence files, meeting documentation, photographs, and other inspection-related records
  • Prepare and submit weekly progress reports that summarize construction activities, progress status, issues, and observations for the Government
  • Review contractor requests for payment, schedules, testing results, and quality control documentation, and provide recommendations or observations to the Government
  • Attend project meetings, coordinate with Government personnel and contractors, and support inspections including substantial completion, final inspections, and punch-list activities
  • Identify and report construction deficiencies, non-compliant work, safety concerns, and other issues to the Contracting Officer and designated Government representatives
Required Education, Knowledge and Skills

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (4-year degree) attained within the last ten (10) years may be used to qualify when combined with a minimum of five (5) years of construction experience
  • Professional certifications, including Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), attained within the last ten (10) years, may be used to qualify when combined with a minimum of five (5) years of construction experience
  • Candidates may alternatively qualify through ten (10) or more years of construction experience as a Construction Inspector, Contractor Superintendent, or Quality Control Manager
Experience
  • Minimum ten (10) years of construction experience as a Construction Inspector, Contractor Superintendent, or Quality Control Manager; or a minimum of five (5) years of construction experience when combined with a qualifying engineering degree or approved certification
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings and specifications to monitor and evaluate construction activities
  • Working knowledge of building construction trades, utility systems, and construction practices applicable to commercial and institutional construction projects.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience on Federal Government construction projects within the last ten (10) years
  • Experience with multi-level building construction projects, including facilities of similar size and complexity
  • Experience with training and classroom facility construction projects is desired
  • Experience with design-build construction projects, including coordination and oversight during project execution
  • Experience involving site utilities, roadway improvements, communication systems, fire protection systems, and related infrastructure construction projects
Key Attributes & Skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents to evaluate construction compliance and progress
  • Knowledge of building construction trades, construction methods, and utility systems relevant to commercial and institutional construction projects
  • Strong construction inspection and quality assurance skills, including the ability to identify deficiencies, non-compliant work, and contract-related issues
  • Proficiency in maintaining project records, construction diaries, photographs, correspondence files, and inspection documentation
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, including weekly progress reports and construction status updates for Government representatives
  • Effective computer skills for project documentation, reporting, and administration
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with Government personnel, contractors, and project stakeholders during meetings, inspections, and project activities
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to monitor construction progress, review contractor documentation, and provide observations and recommendations to the Government throughout the project lifecycle
