Browning Consulting Services (BCS) is seeking a Construction Inspector to support municipal and public infrastructure projects in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
The successful candidate will provide construction inspection, documentation, and field oversight services for water, wastewater, utility, dam, and heavy civil construction projects.This position is ideal for experienced inspectors, field engineers, superintendents, foremen, or construction professionals seeking a hands-on role supporting critical infrastructure projects.
The Construction Inspector will work closely with owners, contractors, engineers, and project managers to help ensure construction activities are performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Construction Observation & Inspection
- Perform daily field inspections of construction activities.
- Monitor contractor compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Observe and document construction progress.
- Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements.
- Coordinate inspection activities with contractors and project stakeholders.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare daily inspection reports and field documentation.
- Maintain project records, photographs, and inspection logs.
- Document field issues, non-conforming work, and corrective actions.
- Track quantities and progress as required by the project team.
- Provide timely communication regarding construction issues and project status.
Project Coordination
- Attend progress meetings and coordination meetings.
- Communicate effectively with owners, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Support project managers and construction managers with field information.
- Assist with project closeout documentation and punch list activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of construction inspection, construction management, contractor, or related infrastructure experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital field reporting tools.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on water, wastewater, utility, dam, transportation, or heavy civil projects.
- VDOT, ACI, NASSCO, erosion and sediment control, or other applicable certifications.
- Experience documenting construction quantities and maintaining inspection records.
- Familiarity with public-sector infrastructure projects.
