Your focus will be field verification to confirm that installed work matches approved plans and specifications, document what happens on site every day, and catch problems early on.

This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Inspect construction work for conformance with approved plans, specifications, permits, codes, and quality requirements.
  • Document daily construction activity, including labor, equipment, materials, quantities, weather, and progress photographs.
  • Verify materials on delivery against submittals, certifications, and approved product data, and reject nonconforming material.
  • Coordinate and witness field testing, and track test results, deficiencies, and corrective actions to closure.
  • Identify and report nonconforming work, safety concerns, and design conflicts to the resident engineer promptly.
  • Measure and record pay quantities supporting contractor progress payments.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility owners, agency staff, and third parties during active construction operations.
  • Support survey verification, layout checks, and as-built documentation.
  • Enforce traffic control, work zone, and site safety requirements within the assigned work area.
  • Support punch list development, testing and startup, and closeout documentation.

Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
  • Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in active construction environments and adapt to changing project priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the confidence to raise an issue when the work doesnt match the drawings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering technology, civil engineering, or construction engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • 5+ years of construction inspection experience on transit, transportation, utility, water, aviation, or other heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience inspecting one or more of the following: civil and structural construction (earthwork, grading, drainage, utilities, foundations, concrete, and structures); mechanical and plumbing systems (HVAC, piping, pumps, and plumbing rough-in and finish); or electrical construction (conduit, cable, terminations, grounding, lighting, panels, and power distribution).
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, applicable codes and standards, and materials testing and acceptance practices.
  • Experience preparing daily inspection reports, quantity records, and nonconformance documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency with electronic field reporting and document management platforms, such as Kahua, Unifier, e-Builder, or Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience inspecting multiple disciplines or systems (e.g., building, electrical, mechanical, coatings, welding, or utility) on the same program.
