Job description

The Construction Inspector is responsible for overseeing facilities and building construction projects to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, safety standards, and company requirements. This role supports planning, procurement, and construction execution activities while coordinating with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Inspect facilities and building construction activities to verify quality, workmanship, materials, and adherence to approved plans
  • Support project planning activities, including constructability reviews, scheduling coordination, and work sequencing
  • Participate in procurement and bid processes, including reviewing scopes of work, supporting contractor selection, and evaluating bids
  • Oversee contractor performance in the field to ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and company standards
  • Monitor daily construction activities and report progress, issues, and deviations to project management
  • Verify materials, equipment, and installations meet project specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with engineering, facilities, operations, and safety teams to resolve construction issues
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, field reports, punch lists, and documentation
  • Support project closeout activities, including inspections, testing, and acceptance of completed work
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in construction inspection, facilities construction, or building projects
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience supporting procurement and contractor bid processes
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices
  • Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA), building codes, and quality standards
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in active construction environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a utility, infrastructure, or regulated environment (e.g., Con Edison or similar)
  • Knowledge of facilities systems (HVAC, electrical, structural, architectural)
  • Experience with capital projects in occupied or operational facilities
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, NICET, or Construction Management credentials
Working Conditions
  • Field-based role with regular exposure to active construction sites
  • Requires walking, standing, climbing, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
