Job description

Inspects and oversees construction of buildings, dams, utilities, walls, pavement, and other types of construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. Essential duties include:

  1. Conducting pile inspections and inspections of deep dynamic compaction processes.
  2. Observing compacted fills (including use of nuclear density gauges), utility installation, concrete testing, and rebar inspection.
  3. Measuring distances to verify the accuracy of structural dimensions and layouts.
  4. Performing routine geotechnical engineering laboratory checks and concrete and rebar inspection testing.
  5. Verifying levels, alignment, and elevations of installations.
  6. Ensuring work in progress conforms to procedures and specifications.
  7. Preparing material samples for laboratory testing and examining workmanship of finished installations.
  8. Interpreting blueprints and specifications, discussing deviations, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  9. Recording material quantities, maintaining logs, and preparing sketches and reports.
  10. Participating in environmental audits, preparing data summaries, and assisting in environmental studies.
  11. Responsible for equipment operation and maintenance, and assisting in the development of remediation devices.
  12. Classifying soils, examining rocks, minerals, and fossils, and applying geological and scientific knowledge to construction and environmental problems.
  13. Directing drilling, overseeing installation of monitoring wells, and collecting soil and groundwater samples.
  14. Performing environmental soil sampling, permeability testing, and well monitoring.
  15. Preparing project estimates, proposals, reports, and mentoring junior staff.
  16. Working under general supervision with independent judgment, adhering to safety policies, and seeking new project opportunities.
  17. Traveling extensively, potentially out of state.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to review plans, specifications, and reports, including compliance with various regulations.
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree or related experience; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with inspection of various construction elements and safety certifications such as OSHA HAZWOPER, ACI/NICET/NJ DCA.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proficiency with relevant tools and software.

Physical Demands: Frequently standing, walking, lifting up to 50+ pounds, and working in outdoor environments under various weather conditions with proper safety gear.

Work Environment: Approximately 100% outdoor work, requiring walking on uneven terrain, exposure to elements, insects, plants, and animals, with appropriate clothing and safety equipment.
