Job description

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure located in the greater NYC Metro area and Springfield, MA. The selected candidate will observe and report on construction activities, coordinate with the project team, and provide documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and work plans to verify contractor compliance;
  • Conduct on-site observation, monitoring, inspection, and evaluation of construction activities;
  • Verify and track work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals;
  • Observe contractor performance and compliance with safety requirements;
  • Prepare daily reports, verify material quantities, maintain Time and Material (T&M) records, and review contractor pay applications;
  • Monitor construction contractor’s adherence to the project schedule and sequence of activities;
  • Maintain project redline and as-built drawings;
  • Coordinate effectively with the CM Project team, engineering teams, contractors, and third-party inspection/testing firms;
  • Assist with project start-up, testing, checkout, and training activities;
  • Maintain construction inspection and testing documentation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of construction or construction observation experience;
  • Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering work;
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Willingness to travel and stay local to projects in the NYC Metro area as needed;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and related software;
  • Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection;
  • B.S. or Associate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Building/Construction Science (not required).
